The crushed and ground ore is mixed with water and chemicals called collectors, which selectively bind to the valuable minerals. Air bubbles are then introduced into the mixture, and the hydrophobic minerals attach to the air bubbles and rise to the surface as a froth. This froth is then skimmed off and dried to produce a concentrate of nickel minerals.
The concentrate is further processed through a series of chemical and physical processes to produce nickel metal or nickel-containing products. These processes may include smelting, roasting, leaching, and electrorefining, depending on the desired final product.
