Limestone is a common non-metallic mineral. my country is rich in limestone mineral resources, accounting for more than 64% of the world’s total reserves, and it is an advantageous natural resource. At present, Japan, the United States, etc. have made a lot of achievements in limestone utilization and deep processing, with 400 to 500 items. With the entry of foreign high-grade calcium carbonate materials and fillers into the Chinese market, it has promoted domestic technological progress, accelerated the rapid growth of my country’s calcium carbonate deep-processing varieties, and has developed rapidly in the direction of diversification and refinement, expanding more uses.
Limestone is widely used, and the product market prospect is promising, but because limestone is widely distributed in China, there is no local resource advantage at all, and it must rely on strength and other advantages to gain market share. Therefore, in the face of this resource, when developing applications, we should choose carefully, take the shortest possible process, and improve the market competitiveness in the simplest way possible. Based on the development status of the deep processing of limestone products at home and abroad, several main uses of limestone mines in my country are introduced.
(1) Foundry sand for the production of machinery. The particle size of the casting sand produced by limestone is 28-75 mesh. This kind of sand has better performance than quartz sand, good collapsibility, easy to clean up by falling sand, improve the surface quality of castings, increase the surface finish of castings, and basically eliminate the harm of silicosis of workers. . According to statistics, only major steel companies purchase tens of thousands of tons of foundry sand every year, which is a potential market for limestone mines in the metallurgical industry.
(2) Used in industrial building materials coatings and other industries. The limestone is ground to 100-200 mesh, which can be directly used to produce powder for industrial building materials such as double fly powder and putty powder; it is also the main raw material in the construction of mixing stations and highways. Limestone-ground coatings improve the thixotropy of the system, can significantly improve the adhesion, scrub resistance, stain resistance, strength and surface finish of the coating, and have a good anti-settling effect. Partially replace titanium dioxide to reduce costs.
(3) Production of desulfurization absorbent. The limestone is ground to 200-325 mesh to replace the original lime or slaked lime, mixed with water in the absorption tower to form a slurry, the absorption slurry is contacted and mixed with the flue gas, and the sulfur dioxide in the flue gas is mixed with the calcium carbonate in the slurry and the blown air. The chemical reaction is removed, and the final reaction product is gypsum. The flue gas after desulfurization is heated up and discharged into the chimney. The process equipment is mature, the desulfurization efficiency is high, and the scope of application is wide.
(4) Used as filler in plastics, coatings and other production processes. The natural calcium carbonate mineral used as the raw material of this kind of product, namely limestone, is required to contain CaCO3 (dry basis): 9810% of the first-class product, 9610% of the first-class product, 9410% of the second-class product, Fe2O3 ≤011%, Mn ≤0102%, Cu ≤01001 %, the whiteness is above 90. In addition, the powder ore with an average particle size of 400-800 mesh is generally used as a coating filler, 800-1250 mesh is used as a filler for plastics, rubber, and papermaking, and a 2500-mesh powder is used as an ink filler after activation treatment.
