Methods for mineral processing of nickel ore
The beneficiation process of cu-Ni sulfide ore and cu-Ni oxide ore is completely different: according to the grade of cu-Ni sulfide ore, different stone selection methods are used, and then smelting; The smelting and enrichment methods of nickel oxide ore can be divided into two categories: fire method and wet method.
Flotation is the main beneficiation method of copper-nickel sulfide ore, while magnetic separation and gravity separation are usually auxiliary beneficiation methods. In the flotation of copper-nickel sulfide ore, collector and foaming agent are often used. A basic principle for determining the flotation process is that it is preferable to allow copper to enter the nickel concentrate and avoid nickel entering the copper concentrate if possible. Because the nickel in copper concentrate loses a lot in the smelting process, and the copper in nickel concentrate can be recovered more completely. Copper nickel ore flotation has the following four basic processes.
1) Direct preferential flotation or partial preferential flotation process: when the ore contains much more copper than nickel, this process can be used to select copper into a separate concentrate. The advantage of this process is that copper concentrate with lower nickel content can be obtained directly.
2) Mixed flotation process: It is used for separating ore containing less copper than nickel, and the resulting mixed concentrate of copper and nickel is smelted directly into high ice nickel.
3) Mixed-preferred flotation process: mixed flotation of copper and nickel from ore, and then separation of copper concentrate with low nickel and copper nickel concentrate from mixed concentrate. After the nickel concentrate was smelted, high ice nickel was obtained and then separated by flotation.
4) Mixed – preferential flotation and recovery of part of nickel from mixed flotation tailings: when the floatability of various nickel minerals in ores is very different, after mixed flotation of copper and nickel, nickel minerals with poor floatability can be further recovered from the tailings.
The selection of the smelting process of nickel sulfide ore depends on the type of raw material, the composition and the requirement of the product. Most sulfide mines are matted, that is, various nickel sulfide ores are converted into low nickel matte by different fire metallurgical processes, and then low nickel matte is blown into high nickel matte by converter, that is, the alloy of nickel sulfide and copper sulfide. High nickel matte can be produced by different refining methods in nickel refinery.
In nickel oxide ore, crushing, screening and other processes are used to remove the large bedrock with weak weathering degree and low nickel content in advance. Because the nickel in nickel oxide ore is often dispersed in gangue minerals with the same texture and the particle size is very fine, it can not be concentrated by mechanical dressing method, but can only be smelted directly.
