Lime is a versatile material with a wide range of applications. It is used in a variety of industries, including construction, agriculture, and water treatment. Lime is also used in a variety of products, including cement, mortar, and plaster.

Lime is manufactured from limestone, which is a type of sedimentary rock that is composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The manufacture of lime from limestone grinding process can be divided into the following steps:
- Quarrying
The first step in the manufacture of lime is quarrying. Limestone is extracted from quarries using a variety of methods, including blasting, drilling, and excavation.
- Crushing and sizing
The crushed limestone is then crushed and sized to a desired particle size. The particle size of the limestone affects the quality of the lime that is produced.
- Calcination
The crushed and sized limestone is then calcined in a kiln. Calcination is a process of heating the limestone to a high temperature (approximately 900-1000 degrees Celsius). During calcination, the calcium carbonate in the limestone decomposes to form calcium oxide (CaO) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Hydration
The calcined lime is then hydrated to form slaked lime (Ca(OH)2). Hydration is a process of adding water to the calcium oxide. Slaked lime is a white powder that is the most common form of lime.
- Additional processing
In some cases, the lime may be further processed to improve its properties. For example, the lime may be ground to a finer particle size or it may be blended with other materials.
The manufacture of lime from limestone grinding process is a relatively simple process. However, it is important to control the various steps in the process to ensure that high-quality lime is produced.
