The grinding efficiency of a ball mill can be calculated using the following equation:
Grinding Efficiency = (Gross Discharge Rate of Fines) / (Net Discharge Rate of Fines)
The gross discharge rate of fines refers to the rate at which the fine particles exit the mill, while the net discharge rate of fines is the rate at which the fine particles are being discharged after taking into account the circulating load in the mill.
To calculate the gross discharge rate of fines, one needs to measure the production rate of fines from the mill. This can be done by taking samples of the mill’s product and measuring the weight or volume of the fine particles in the sample.

The net discharge rate of fines takes into consideration the circulating load in the mill, which refers to the amount of material that is recirculated within the mill instead of being discharged. The circulating load can be estimated by measuring the amount of material in the mill and the feed rate of the material.
Once the gross discharge rate of fines and the net discharge rate of fines are determined, the grinding efficiency can be calculated by dividing the gross discharge rate of fines by the net discharge rate of fines.
It is important to note that other factors, such as the mill’s design, operating conditions, and the properties of the material being ground, can also affect the grinding efficiency.
